Group Project

For my group project that was completed back around week 5, my team and I made a game called City Guard.
It's based off of an Atari game, but with some added tweaks and improvements.

Exams/Grades

I finished the exams for both of my units in week 7, and on the 12th I got an email from one of my lecturers telling me I got a high distinction in one of my units.
Later, on the 22nd I got an email telling me my final scores for both of my units, and I got high distinctions in both of them!

AIE Internship

In week 7, I went on a week-long internship at AIE, an institution dedicated to teaching people everything involved in making games and animation for film. While I was there I got to use software like Autodesk Maya and Unreal Engine 4 to make a 3D model and create a simple game (respectively)

Unreal Engine 4

At AIE, we learnt how to make simple games using Unreal Engine 4. We were provided with a sample project that came with several components (player, gun, button) and we were tasked with putting together a simple game.

We also learnt how to make our own components using Unreal Engine's visual-based programming interface, and I made a simple modular teleporter.

Autodesk Maya

We also learnt how to use Maya to create 3D character models, as well as how to rig them and create simple animations for them.

The character that I made was a simple robot, with a transparent compartment on its chest containing an orange ball.

UTS Tech Festival

In week 9, I attended the UTS Tech Festival and participated in a two-day event, the quantum hackathon.

In this event, we were tasked with making a game that utilised quantum mechanics in one way or another for the duration of the event.

Quantum Hackathon

The game that I made was a small version of Chess. The game played on a 5x5 board, and you only had 5 pawns and 2 knights, and the objective was to take out all of the opponent's pieces.

I didn't get to finish the quantum part of the game in time, but I was going to implement an "entanglement" mechanic, where you could split a piece into two other pieces, however both of the pieces were entangled, so whatever happened to one would happen to the other.

MSI Showcase

At the tech festival, I also got to play around with MSI's new top-of-the-line gaming laptops, because there was a competitive gaming event running next door and MSI were the sponsors of the event.

UTS Startup Summit

At the startup summit on Tuesday, we got to hear speeches from several UTS and high school students on their entrepreneurial journeys and what they've accomplished.

We heard from students in year 10 that have already started a small business online, as well as people studying at UTS that have made unique products and built a team.

The people that spoke had started their businesses selling products on ecommerce sites, fiverr, and even from making youtube videos.
