Big Picture - Term 3

UNE Recap

This term, I've been working on my trimester two units,
COSC110 (Introduction to Programming and the UNIX Environment)
ICT100 (Computational Thinking)

COSC110

In COSC110, we're focusing mainly on data and statistics. In all 3 assessments, we were tasked with helping to improve the buses in a fictional town called "Codetown"
In the first assessment, we were tasked with making a program that counted how many people got on and off a bus every stop, and in total how many passengers were "happy" (got on) and how many were "unhappy" (couldnt get on)

COSC110

In the second assessment, we made a program that did almost the same thing as assessment 1, but instead of having the user type in the numbers every time, the program read a big text file with the "happy" and "unhappy" customers already written down.
In the third and final assessment, we made a program with an actual UI that recorded how clean the customers thought the bus was, on a scale of 1-5, before displaying the average cleanliness score.

ICT100

In ICT100, we focused on programming virtual robots to navigate mazes and obstacles in a 2d environment, which was significantly harder than COSC110.
In the first assessment we had to navigate a robot through a lava maze and interact with obstacles, which wasn't too difficult, so I was able to complete it in a day.

ICT100

For the second assessment, we had to make a robot that followed a line to the end of a maze based off of colours of the line, for example if the robot encountered a T intersection and there was a green square to the left, it would go left, however if there was none it would go straight ahead.

ICT100

In the third assessment, we had to program a mouse robot that mapped out a maze and then found the quickest route to the centre, similar to Micromouse, an international robotics challenge that has been running for 40 years.
In the final fourth assessment, we made 3 robots, all with different roles in operating a "robot restaurant"

UTS Open Day

On the 26th of August, I went to see the UTS Open Day with my dad, and we explored the various opportunities they offered at UTS, as well as if I would be able to get a scholarship by the time I've graduated high school.
Unfortunately, you need an ATAR (of over 85) to get a scholarship at UTS, which I won't have because of big picture, but we got talking to one of the scholarship advisors, explained to him my situation and what I'm doing and he said that we could call him and he'd help us get a scholarship.

My website

Recently, I also got a new domain for my website, so instead of it being https://circularsprojects.com, it's now https://circulars.dev
I've also set up a blog on my website (at https://blog.circulars.dev) where I can post stories on what I'm working on, like watchcord.

watchcord

What is watchcord?

Watchcord is an app I'm working on that allows you to use Discord on your Apple Watch.
Discord is a popular communication platform sort of similar to whatsapp and slack targeted towards gamers, but as of (semi)recently is also used for all things from music to art to cooking.

watchcord

There are other apps on the app store already that do the same thing as watchcord, however most of them either don't work, are really buggy or are just not updated at all.
My main competitor (minicord) costs around $6, and from the looks of it, works pretty well, however it lacks a few key features that I can implement in my own app.

Current state

Right now, the app is still in a VERY in-development stage, and I still need to implement a bunch of basic features, but I've invited about a dozen people to help test my app using Testflight.

Eventually, I plan to release watchcord on the App Store, for around $3, however it'll take at least a few months until a stable release version is ready.

I also released a blog post detailing the development progress on watchcord.

food-bot

Because I changed domain names, I had to update a bunch of food-bot's code and the API it relied on to use the new domain instead of the old one, which thankfully didn't take that long, and I was able to get food-bot up and running with the new domain in under a day.

ASSESSMENT 4: we had a booking robot, a waiter robot and a cooking robot

https://www.uts.edu.au/scholarship/bachelor-information-technology-co-operative-scholarship-program

two internship placements as part of scholarship

required ATAR of 85 or above (pref. 90), however 80-85 may be considered

didnt take any photos unfortunately

there were photographers, but i cant find the photos anywhere online

after the open day me and my dad went and had lunch in broadway :)

a bit of a small one

"such as watchcord" ill get into that blog post shortly

showcase website

One of those key features is being able to call people on Discord, which hasn't been possible on apple watch for a while, but is now doable with the release of watchOS 9 (last year)

mention what testflight is, beta testing thing

blog post: "which i think you all have seen already"

683 (up from 614 last term)
